Result Interpretation |
The Roche Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 total antibodies test is intended for use as an aid in identifying individuals with an immune response to SARS-CoV-2, indicating recent or prior infection. The assay uses a recombinant protein representing the nucleocapsid (N) antigen for the determination of antibodies against SARS CoV 2. A positive result indicates that the sample was reactive for anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Please note that this assay does not detect antibodies induced by the current COVID-19 vaccines, as these vaccines generate antibody responses to the spike (S) protein. At this time, it is unknown for how long antibodies persist following infection and if the presence of antibodies confers protective immunity. Negative results do not preclude acute SARS CoV 2 infection. The Elecsys Anti SARS CoV 2 assay should not be used to diagnose acute SARS CoV 2 infection. If acute infection is suspected, molecular testing for SARS CoV 2 is necessary. False positive results for the Elecsys Anti SARS CoV 2 assay may occur due to cross reactivity from pre-existing antibodies or other possible causes. The Elecsys Anti SARS CoV 2 assay is only for use under the Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authorization. |
